Rangam is seeking candidates for a Contract role as a High Containment Operations Associate with our client Pfizer, one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. Seeking candidates in Pearl River, NY or willing to relocate.

Short-term coverage

POSITION SUMMARY

In this temporary and part-time position the new hire will be part of the high containment operations group. They will help ensure the smooth functioning of our biosafety level 3 (BSL3) and animal biosafety level 3 (ABSL3) laboratories.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support daily high containment operations, maintain laboratory and equipment readiness, restock protective equipment (PPE), handling and decontaminating biohazardous waste.
  • Prepare and update compliance activity reports.
  • Coordinate maintenance with laboratory users to minimize work disruption.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • High Containment Operations.
  • BSL-3 users.
  • ABSL-3 users.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A high school diploma or higher
  • Understanding of basic scientific concepts
  • Knowledge of basic computer operation including working with Microsoft office (MS Word, MS Excel)
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Prior experience in a research lab is desirable but not required.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Prior experience in a research lab is desirable but not required.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operation including working with Microsoft office (MS Word, MS Excel).
  • Basic understanding of biological concepts such as infection, sterility, decontamination.

PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • The position involves lifting weights of up to 50 lbs.
  • The employee will have to wear a Powered Purified Air Respirator (PAPR) for 3-5 hours.
  • The employee will have to wear protective coveralls for 3-5 hours.
  • The employee may have to stand for 2-3 hours wearing the above-mentioned PPE.
  • The employee may have to shower after working in the laboratory.
  • The employee will work in areas where viruses and animals infected with viruses may be present.
  • The employee may have to climb up and down the stairs.
  • The employee will be drug tested to be compliant with the Federal Select Agent program. Marijuana is not an exempt drug in this program.
  • The ability to bend and lift things from the ground.

  • Biohazardous Agent work (such as menigiditis, staph aureus, Lenti Virus, streph pneumoniae)
  • Clinical Research Unit facility
  • Respirator use
