- The position involves hands on wet lab work supporting the preparation, management, and characterization of critical reagents used across various therapeutic programs.
- The selected candidate must be comfortable working with biohazardous materials (BSL 2) and chemical hazards, including materials associated with antibody–drug conjugates.
This is a 12 month contract with potential for extension based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform bioconjugation of therapeutics with various proteins, tags, or labels.
Conduct laboratory assays and analytical methods, such as:
- ELISA / ligand binding assays
- HPLC
- UV/Vis
- BCA
- Execute multi day experimental workflows and maintain accurate laboratory documentation.
- Prepare templated summary sheets for each reagent produced (no interpretive report writing required).
- Support reagent inventory management, including coordination of materials stored in off site critical storage.
- Follow all safety procedures when working with hazardous materials.
- Collaborate within a small, highly interactive team while independently managing assigned weekly tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Academic wet lab experience (coursework, projects, internships, or co ops).
- Ability to work 100% onsite and perform 100% wet lab work.
- Comfort working with biohazardous (BL2) and chemical hazardous materials.
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, general digital fluency).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (new graduates are welcome).
Hands on experience with:
- Bioconjugation techniques
- ELISA or ligand binding assays
- HPLC or similar analytical instrumentation
A PhD candidate will be overqualified for the role
Work Environment & Team Structure
- Small, collaborative lab based team.
- Each scientist manages their own experiments, with shared space and support from team members.
- Training will be led primarily by senior team members, with contributions from others as needed.
- Minimal operational tasks may accompany laboratory work (e.g., reagent movement, basic inventory tasks).
- No regular weekend work; Saturday work would only occur under exceptional circumstances.
- No travel expected.
The successful candidate will join the Critical Reagents group to support projects in the portfolio pipeline.
- Responsibilities include wet lab support using characterization techniques and generation of critical reagent conjugates.
- Additional duties involve interfacing with the external inventory management organization to integrate information and knowledge of critical reagents, registration and submission into the centralized inventory for life cycle inventory and resupply purposes.
- The incumbent will assist with lab operations through activities such as the generation and tracking of purchase orders and costs, buffer supplies, organization of freezers, and uploading and managing critical reagent characterization summaries on local internet sites.
- The incumbent should have 0-3 years of experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
MOST CRITICAL SKILLS NEEDED:
- A Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry or related field is required.
- Knowledge of protein characterization techniques such as ligand binding assays (ELISA), BCA, SDS-PAGE, Western blot, Octet, UV Vis, and analytical SEC is a plus.
- Ability to excel in a collaborative, fast paced and dynamic environment is essential.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- A flexible approach and team-oriented work style will be critical to the success of the candidate.
- Good critical and strategic thinking, logical thought process, willingness to learn, troubleshoot and resolve issues and work across multiple disciplinary groups.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite.
