Clinical Field Specialist

• Working Monday–Friday with occasional evenings and weekends based on clinical or sales needs.
• Travel requirement: 50–75%, depending on the geographic location of the territory.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Clinical Field Specialist – PRN to provide clinical case support and help drive utilization of advanced hemodynamic monitoring technologies across hospitals and healthcare facilities in the North Houston territory.

This position is ideal for a nurse or other clinically experienced professional who is interested in transitioning into medical device sales while continuing to maintain a clinical position.

The Clinical Field Specialist will work directly with anesthesiologists, nurses, ICU teams, and other clinicians in the operating room and other procedural environments. The individual will support cases, help clinicians understand and utilize the technology, troubleshoot equipment, interpret hemodynamic data, and identify opportunities where the technology can benefit patients.

This is a clinical sales role with growth and utilization objectives—not a traditional clinical education or training position.

Territory

The primary territory covers the North Houston area, including:

• Houston Medical Center / Downtown Houston
• North Houston
• The Woodlands
• Beaumont, TX
• Surrounding hospitals and healthcare facilities within the assigned territory

The selected candidate must be comfortable with frequent local travel between healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Case Support

• Provide in-person clinical support during procedures and surgical cases.
• Arrive at the operating room early enough to support cases beginning around 6:30 AM.
• Review the daily operating room schedule and identify cases where hemodynamic monitoring technology may be appropriate.
• Work directly with anesthesia teams and clinical staff to determine whether the technology could benefit a particular patient.
• Assist with setup and proper use of hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
• Support clinicians throughout the case and help troubleshoot technology-related issues.
• Ensure the monitoring system is providing accurate and reliable data.
• Help clinicians interpret relevant hemodynamic information and understand what the data indicates about the patient's condition.
• Discuss potential interventions such as fluids, vasopressors, and inotropes with clinicians within the appropriate clinical scope.
• Help clinicians become comfortable and self-sufficient with the technology.

Clinical Sales & Account Development

• Build strong relationships with anesthesiologists, nurses, ICU teams, and other clinical stakeholders.
• Drive utilization and adoption of the technology within assigned accounts.
• Identify new providers, service lines, cases, and patient populations where the technology may be applicable.
• Follow up on cases and opportunities to expand utilization within existing accounts.
• Work with clinical teams to identify opportunities for additional product adoption.
• Communicate the clinical and operational value of the technology to healthcare professionals.
• Develop relationships with anesthesia teams and leverage those relationships to introduce and expand product utilization.
• Support account growth and meet assigned utilization/growth objectives.
• Maintain accurate case activity and account information in the appropriate systems.

Product / Technology Exposure

The Clinical Field Specialist will support a portfolio of hemodynamic monitoring technologies, including:

• Swan-Ganz catheter
• Acumen Sensor – arterial-based cardiac output monitoring
• Acumen Cuff – non-invasive, continuous beat-to-beat blood pressure monitoring
• Cerebral Oximetry
• Hemosphere monitoring platform

The individual will need to understand the technology well enough to explain its clinical application to healthcare professionals and support its use during procedures.

Clinical Environments / Service Lines

The technology may be used across a broad range of clinical environments. Candidates should be willing and able to learn different patient populations and procedural areas, including:

• ICU

• Labor & Delivery / OB
• Orthopedics

• Trauma
• Neurology
• Neuro-spine
• Robotic surgery
• C-sections
• Other procedural and surgical environments

The ability and willingness to learn multiple clinical applications is important.

Daily Activities

A typical day may include:

6:00 AM

• Travel to assigned hospital/facility
• Prepare for the day's cases

6:30 AM

• Begin operating-room case support
• Review OR board and identify appropriate cases
• Connect with anesthesia/clinical teams

Morning – 12:00 PM

• Support active cases
• Troubleshoot technology
• Review hemodynamic information
• Build relationships with clinicians
• Identify additional opportunities for technology utilization

12:00 PM

• Account/team check-in
• Review case status and next steps
• Assess ICU and other clinical opportunities

1:00 PM onward

• Continue case support
• Visit other clinical areas as appropriate
• Build/update stakeholder relationships
• Develop account and utilization strategy
• Follow up on potential expansion opportunities

End of Day

• Complete case documentation
• Ensure all case activity is captured
• Follow up on outstanding opportunities
• Confirm account objectives and next steps

The role can involve 12,000–15,000 steps per day and requires the ability to stand for extended periods in operating-room environments.

Required Qualifications

Must Have

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Nursing or clinical background strongly preferred.
• Strong clinical understanding and ability to learn complex medical technology.
• Willingness and ability to work in operating-room and hospital environments.
• Ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory.
• Ability to work approximately 30 hours per week / three 10-hour weekday shifts.
• Comfortable starting the workday as early as 6:00 AM.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interact professionally with anesthesiologists, nurses, ICU teams, and other healthcare professionals.
• Ability to learn and articulate clinical concepts related to hemodynamic monitoring.
• Strong interest in medical device sales / clinical sales.
• Ability to work toward account growth and utilization objectives.
• Comfortable standing and walking for extended periods.
• Ability to work approximately 12,000–15,000 steps per day.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced OR/hospital environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• ICU nursing experience.
• Operating Room nursing experience.
• Step-down / progressive-care nursing experience.
• Previous exposure to hemodynamic monitoring.
• Previous medical device experience.
• Previous clinical sales experience.
• Previous experience working with anesthesia teams.
• Experience supporting surgical/procedural cases.
• Experience with cardiovascular or critical-care patients.
• Existing familiarity with Swan-Ganz, cardiac output, hemodynamic monitoring, or similar technologies.
